For years, the only version of Straight, Inc. anyone heard was Straight’s own: the brochures, the open meetings, the endorsements from the White House.
The other version survived because people refused to let it disappear. Survivors scanned rulebooks they’d been told to forget. Strangers built websites before there were social networks. Moderators held space for people who’d never said the words out loud. Journalists and filmmakers carried those words into public view.
StraightSpringfield.com exists because of them. This page is our thank-you, and a map for anyone looking for the people who understand.

IIIThe First Voices
Most of them never asked for credit. Many still can’t be named.
- They:
- digitized and shared program documents Straight never meant to be seen
- built websites, forums and mailing lists before social media existed
- testified publicly so others could recognize what had happened to them
- moderated groups to protect the most vulnerable members
- traced the lineage from Straight back to Synanon and attack therapy
- spoke first, when speaking out was still dangerous
